Štefanová (German Stephansdorf or Steffelsdorf , Hungarian Istvánkirályfalva - until 1907 Istvánfalu ) is a small community in Bratislavský kraj in western Slovakia .
geography
The place lies in the Danube lowlands in the apron of the Little Carpathians at the brook Štefanovský potok . The cities of Trnava and Pezinok are each 16 km away and the capital Bratislava is 32 km to the southwest.
history
The predecessor of today's municipality was the place Schönau (Slovak also Šajnava ), which is mentioned in 1447 as Seunaw . The Roman Catholic Church of St. Stephen dates from this time. Since the 16th century the place belonged to the rule of Rotenstein Castle , but in 1540 it is mentioned as devastated and destroyed. Today's place was founded in 1588, named after the existing church of St. Stephen.
