Jablonec (until 1948 also in Slovak and until 1927 only "Halmeš"; German Halmesch , Hungarian Halmos ) is a municipality in Bratislavský kraj in western Slovakia .
geography
The place is located in the Danube lowlands on the river Gidra and lies between the municipalities of Budmerice and Cífer (the latter in Trnavský kraj ) and is about 18 kilometers from Trnava .
history
The place was first mentioned as Zamol in 1342 . It belonged to the estate of Rotenstein Castle . In 1948 the place name, which sounded too Magyar, was changed to the Slovakized name Jablonec (Slovak jabloň = "apple tree") for reasons of national policy.
