Cífer (German Section , Hungarian Cifer - until 1907 Ciffer ) is a municipality in the west of Slovakia with a population of 4370 (December 31, 2019) and is based inhabitants the largest municipality of Trnava District .
geography
Cífer is located in the southwestern part of the Trnavská pahorkatina hills , part of the Slovak Danube lowlands . The Gidra stream flows through the village and runs from the Little Carpathians in the northwest. The center of the village is at an altitude of 147 m nm and is 12 kilometers from Trnava .

history
The first evidence of settlement comes from the Neolithic Age. However, the archaeological site in the Pác district, with finds from the Bronze and Iron Ages, Germanic and Roman settlements, is known above all.
The place was mentioned in writing for the first time in 1291. He belonged to the Counts of Lefantovce , and then to several ruling families from the 17th century. At the beginning of the 18th century Cífer was granted market rights and developed as a minor town. In 1828 Cífer had 147 houses and 1045 inhabitants.
