Špačince (German Spatzing or Spatznitz , Hungarian Ispáca - until 1907 Spáca ) is a municipality in western Slovakia with 3010 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019). It belongs to the Okres Trnava and the higher district Trnavský kraj .
geography
The municipality is located in the Trnavská pahorkatina ("Tyrnauer hill country"), a part of the Slovak Danube lowlands , on the Krupský potok brook . Špačince is nine kilometers from Trnava .
history
The place was mentioned in writing for the first time in 1111 in the Zobor documents as Spacha (other sources give the year 1275). In 1292 the then Gespan Geth got the place from King Andreas III. and his Spáczay family owned it until the mid-18th century when the Brunswick family acquired the place. In the middle of the 16th century there was an influx of Croatians who left the city of Kostajnica and its surroundings , which had been conquered by the Turks ; these traces can still be seen today. In 1699 Spatzing was granted market and town rights, but was downgraded to a simple village again in the 19th century.
