Suchá nad Parnou (until 1927 Slovak "suchá"; German Dürnbach , Hungarian Szárazpatak - to 1888 Szuha ) is a municipality in the west of Slovakia , with a population of 2,203 (December 31, 2019). It belongs to the Okres Trnava , a lower part of the Trnavský kraj .
geography
Suchá nad Parnou is located in the Slovakian Danube lowlands , lower part of Trnavská pahorkatina (Tyrnau hill country) on the Parná brook , at the confluence with the Podhájsky brook , which is dammed above the community in the small Suchá reservoir. The town center is eight kilometers from Trnava .
history
The place was mentioned in writing for the first time in 1251 as part of the estate of Rotenstein Castle . The parish is said to have originated during this time. Vineyards of the Tyrnau citizens were already known in the 14th century. In the 16th century there was an influx of Croatian settlers; In 1663 the place was sacked by the Turks.
Until shortly after the Second World War, a Renaissance country castle was the center of Suchá nad Parnou. However, this was demolished in 1952 and a school building was erected on its site.
