Bučany (Hungarian Bucsány ) is a municipality in western Slovakia , with 2362 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019). The municipality in the Okres Trnava and the Trnavský kraj district is 99% Slovak; denominationally, the Roman Catholic Church dominates with 95.8% (2001 census).
geography
The municipality is located in the Trnavská pahorkatina hill country , which is part of the Slovak Danube lowlands . The rivers Horná Blava and Dudváh converge near the village . Bučany is located nine kilometers northeast of the city of Trnava .
history
The place is an old settlement with finds from the Lausitz , Hallstatt and Latène cultures . Bučany is also the site of a circular moat .
The place was first mentioned in writing in 1258. In 1268 the place was allocated by King Béla IV to the sons of the Tyrnau mayor Cunta. In 1289 it became the seat of the Bucsányi family ; Over the centuries the Ocskay , Zay and Pongrácz families have also been represented.
In 1435 the attacking Hussites plundered the village. In 1828 the community had 130 houses and 913 residents, most of whom were employed in agriculture. Until 1892 the community was divided into an upper and a lower part (Hungarian Nagybucsány and Kisbucsány ).
