Šúrovce (German Schur , Hungarian Súr ) is a municipality in the west of Slovakia with a population of 2,315 (December 31, 2019). It belongs to the Okres Trnava , a lower part of the Trnavský kraj .

geography

The municipality is located in the Danube hill country (part of the Slovakian Danube lowlands ) on the right bank of the Waag and not far from the Dudváh , with part of the municipality on the left bank of the Waag. The center of the village is located at an altitude of 131  m nm and is six kilometers from Sereď and 13 kilometers from Trnava .

Administratively, the municipality is divided into the districts Šúrovce and Varov Šúr.

history

The present municipality was created in 1944 through the merger of the places Veľké Šúrovce (German Großschur ) and Zemianske Šúrovce . 1955 Valtov Šúr , 1973 Varov Šúr was incorporated.

The individual places were first mentioned in writing in 1241 (Veľké Šúrovce), 1256 (Zemianske Šúrovce), 1423 (Varov Šúr) and 1426 (Valtov Šúr). In 1430 there was a battle between Sigismund's army of Luxembourg and the Hussites . The places belonged to the estates of Freistadtl , Schintau and Lanschütz ; an important landowner was, among others, the Esterházy family .
