Hrnčiarovce nad Parnou (until 1946 in Slovak "Hrnčiarovce"; German Dorfneustadt or Hrentscherowitz , Hungarian Gerencsér ) is a place and a municipality in the Okres Trnava of the Trnavský kraj in western Slovakia . As of December 31, 2009, the number of residents was 2141.
geography
The municipality is located in the Danube hill country five kilometers southwest of the city of Trnava on the Parná river , which flows on the northeastern edge of the municipality.
history
The place is mentioned in writing for the first time in 1270 (other data speak of 1267) and belonged as a subordinate community to the free royal city of Tyrnau. This relationship was valid until the end of bondage in the 19th century. The name refers to pottery , which was the occupation of the original population.
On December 26, 1704, the battle of Tyrnau between the rebels of Franz II Rákóczi and the imperial troops of Sigbert Heister took place near the site , the latter of whom came out victorious.
Until 1918 the place was in Pressburg County in the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to the newly formed Czechoslovakia . From November 28, 1971 to February 1, 1994 the municipality was part of the city of Trnava.
