Šelpice (German Schelpitz , Hungarian Selpőc - until 1907 Selpic is a municipality in) west of Slovakia with 885 inhabitants (December 31, 2019). It belongs to the Okres Trnava , part of the Trnavský kraj .
geography
The village is located in the Trnavská pahorkatina hills on the right bank of the Trnávka river . The center of the village is located at an altitude of 164 m nm and is eight kilometers from Trnava .
Neighboring municipalities are Boleráz in the northwest, Bohdanovce nad Trnavou in the east, Trnava in the south, Zvončín in the southwest and Suchá nad Parnou in the west.
history
Šelpice was mentioned in writing for the first time in 1283 as Selpe , other sources give the year 1249. For many years it belonged to the estate of the Červený Kameň Castle (German Bibersburg ). After a Turkish invasion in 1530, the village was devastated and nine years later, thanks to the efforts of the Fugger family, it was repopulated. At that time, many Croatians also came from the occupied territories of Croatia. In 1715 the village had vineyards and 20 taxpayers, in 1828 there were 53 houses and 385 inhabitants, whose main sources of income were agriculture and viticulture.
Until 1918, the place in Pressburg County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia.
From 1975 to 1990 the place was part of the municipality Bohdanovce nad Trnavou.

According to the 2011 census, 770 people lived in Šelpice, including 735 Slovaks, eleven Magyars, three Czechs and two Moravians and two Russians. Six residents indicated a different ethnic group and eleven residents gave no information in this regard. 627 residents committed themselves to the Roman Catholic Church, four residents to the Evangelical Church AB, two residents to the Reformed Church and one resident each to the Greek Catholic Church and the Orthodox Church; one resident professed a different denomination. 106 residents had no denomination and 28 residents had no denomination.

Šelpice is located directly on the 1st order road 51 (section Czech border – Trnava) and is also served by the Šelpice station on the Trnava – Kúty railway line.
