Brestovany (German (small / large) Brestowan , Hungarian (Alsó / Felső) Szil - until 1898 Beresztovány ) is a municipality in western Slovakia .
location
The municipality is located in the vast valley of the Váh River , on the Bratislava – Žilina railway line . It is located about seven kilometers from Trnava .
history
The municipality was created in 1950 through the merger of the previously independent municipalities Malé Brestovany and Veľké Brestovany . The oldest written mention of the districts can be found in 1113. In 1975, the Lovčice municipality , which was created in 1960 through the merger of Dolné Lovčice and Horné Lovčice , was incorporated. In 1990 Dolné Lovčice left the municipality and has been a separate municipality since then.
