Peter Heidrich

Peter Heidrich (born December 26, 1929 in Stettin ; † December 18, 2007 in Rostock ) was a German theologian and linguist.

Life

Heidrich studied Protestant theology at the University of Rostock . He later became a lecturer there for ancient Greek and Latin . In 1959 he received his doctorate in theology with a thesis on "Maimunizitate bei Meister Eckhart " . In 1970 he completed his habilitation with a thesis on dualism and duality in the history of religion and the New Testament and thus acquired the Venia Legendi . After the fall of the Wall , he was appointed professor at the University of Rostock in 1990 . In 1993 he was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit. In 1996 he retired .

Peter Heidrich was a university professor , theologian, religious scholar and linguist at the universities of Rostock and Greifswald . For many years he worked at the Rostock University of Music and Theater as a philosopher , dramaturge and pastor.

His encounter with the Zen master Pater Lassalle SJ from Japan opened up new horizons in dealing with meditation and contemplation during the GDR period . His Socrates- oriented teaching style and his lectures on Faust II and Dante's Divine Comedy have shaped his students since 1960. Outstanding were his interpretations of fairy tales, his lectures on number mysticism , star tales and Buddhism . Peter Heidrich was a member of the Evangelical Michael Brotherhood and for many years an elder (leader) of the North Convention.
