Geography and traffic

The Okres extends northeast of Bratislava and is one of the smaller districts of Slovakia. The western part is in the Small Carpathian Mountains , the eastern part in the Danube lowlands , mostly in its hilly part . Few rivers flow through the Okres, which are also only short; the largest are Gidra , Sisek and Čierna voda . The Little Carpathians are covered by brown forest soils, the loess soil by brown earth and black earth near floodplains. The highest point is the mountain Čertov Kopec ( 752  m nm ), the lowest is near Svätý Jur with 129  m nm In the northeast it borders on the Trnava district in Trnavský kraj , in the southeast on the Okres Senec , in the southwest on the Bratislava III district as well as in the northwest on the Okres Malacky .

In terms of traffic, only part of the double- track Bratislava – Žilina line , which was expanded in the 2000s, runs. There are no motorways or 1st order roads in the Okres, the "main axis" is the state road II / 502, which connects the three cities in the Okres and has four lanes from Bratislava to Pezinok. Other roads are the state road II / 503, which runs from the Baba pass ( 527  m nm ) in the Little Carpathians via Pezinok to Senec and the state road II / 504, which branches off in Modra towards Trnava . Motorway connections to the D1 motorway exist outside the Okres in Vajnory and Senec.

history

Historically, the district is located in the former Pressburg county (see also the list of historical counties in Hungary ). There the district was divided between the chair districts of Szenc (German Wartberg, majority), Nagyszombat (German Tyrnau) and Pozsony (German Pressburg, each in small parts); the cities of Szentgyörgy (dt. Sankt Georgen), Bazin (dt. Bösing) and Modor (dt. modern) were districts. After the creation of Czechoslovakia, the Modra district was established in 1923, which had other borders with the exception of the Little Carpathians. This was three municipalities in the east ( Dlhá , Dolné Orešany , Horné Orešany ) and five in the south ( Kaplna , Igram , Čataj , Veľký Grob and Blatné ) larger, but without the town of Svätý Jur, which belonged to the Okres Bratislava-vidiek . In 1928 the communities Dolné Orešany and Horné Orešany were added to the Trnava district. In the years 1923–28 and 1940–45 ( First Slovak Republic ) the Okres was part of the Bratislavská župa administrative unit (Bratislava County). In the administrative structure of Czechoslovakia in 1949 the district lost the five municipalities in the south in favor of Okres Senec, the seat was moved to Pezinok and was part of Bratislavský kraj in 1949-60 (not to be confused with today's). After the administrative reform in 1960, the district was dissolved and south of the line and incorporated into the Okres Bratislava-vidiek in Západoslovenský kraj ; the community of Dlhá came to the Okres Trnava. Today's Okres was set up in the now independent Slovakia in 1996 as part of the new administrative structure and assigned to the Bratislavský kraj.
