Synagogue ruins in 1940

The synagogue in Chorzów (German Königshütte ), a town in the Silesian Voivodeship in Poland , was built on Kaiserstraße in 1874/75.

There was room for more than 400 men in the synagogue , and there was a gallery for women .

The synagogue was destroyed during the German occupation of Poland in 1939. In 1940 the synagogue ruins had to be cleared away by Jewish forced laborers. Today there is a department store on the site of the synagogue.
