Synagogue (Gau-Algesheim)
The synagogue in Gau-Algesheim , a town in the Mainz-Bingen district in Rhineland-Palatinate , was built in 1861. The desecrated synagogue with the address cross leg 11 is a protected cultural monument .
history
A synagogue in Gau-Algesheim that was owned by the brothers Jacob and Simon Nathan is first mentioned in 1838. By 1850 this synagogue had become dilapidated. In 1861 there was an extensive renovation or new building.
In 1936 the synagogue was closed. Seen from the outside, the building remained unchanged until the last renovation. The multi-colored skylight was retained above the entrance with the 19th century door.
