The synagogue in Rychnov nad Kněžnou (German Reichenau an der Knieschna ), a town in Královéhradecký kraj in the Czech Republic , was built in 1781/82. The derelict synagogue has been a protected cultural monument since 1988 .

history

After a fire in 1830, the building was restored.

During the German occupation , the synagogue was looted and the interior was completely destroyed.

The restored synagogue building, which was used for other purposes during the communist era, has housed the Karel Poláček memorial since the mid-1990s and has a permanent exhibition on the region's Jewish history. Since 2002 a plaque commemorates the victims of the Shoah .
