The synagogue in Strakonice (German Strakonitz ), a town in the Jihočeský kraj (South Bohemian Region) in the Czech Republic , was built around 1860 and demolished in 1976.

history

Due to the increasing number of parishioners, the Jewish community decided to build a new synagogue in 1860 after the old synagogue collapsed in 1858. The synagogue, built in the historicizing style, offered enough space for all parishioners, the number of which reached a maximum of 326 in 1890.

During the Second World War , the synagogue was used as a storage room. From 1951 it served as a prayer house for the Brethren Church. It was demolished along with neighboring houses in 1976. Today the Labuť department store is in its place. Behind it, a memorial commemorates the synagogue and the Jewish community, which was unveiled on October 11, 2007.
