history

In 1854 the new synagogue was inaugurated with a school building next to it. In the synagogue there was a Torah shrine with six Torah scrolls . During the November pogrom in 1938 , the synagogue was not destroyed. In 1939 the Jewish community in Berkach sold it under pressure to the political community. In 1942 the political community sold the former synagogue to the Savings Banks and Loans Association. From 1949 the former synagogue was used by the Association of Mutual Farmers Aid (VdgB) and later by the Agricultural Production Cooperative (LPG) as a storage room and forge .

From 1990 the synagogue was completely renovated under the direction of the preservation of monuments. On November 3, 1991 the building was re-inaugurated as a synagogue by the Hessian rabbi Chaim Litschitz .
