The synagogue and the mountain synagogue in Hartmanice (German Hartmanitz ), a town in Okres Klatovy ( Czech Republic ), was built in 1883. It served the Jewish community as a place of worship until 1938. The derelict synagogue has been a protected cultural monument since 2006 .

history

After it was incorporated into the German Reich on the basis of the Munich Agreement in October 1938, the synagogue was confiscated and a carpentry business was set up. After the Second World War , the building continued to serve as a production facility and then as a tire warehouse for the Czechoslovak Army . In 2002, a citizens' initiative for the Hartmanitz Memorial was founded with the aim of preserving the synagogue and using it as an exhibition space. After the renovation work was completed, the memorial was opened in May 2006.
