The synagogue in Hengstfeld , a district of the Wallhausen community in the Schwäbisch Hall district in Baden-Württemberg , was built in 1810/11. The synagogue stood on the property at Hauptstrasse 142, which has been used as a garden since the synagogue was demolished.

history

A prayer room was set up in a Jewish residence as early as 1735. From 1804 the construction of a synagogue in Hengstfeld was planned, which was finally inaugurated on February 8, 1811. For the construction of the synagogue, the master blacksmith Johann Michael Mayer had lent 400 guilders to the Jewish community of Hengstfeld .

In 1834 the synagogue in Hegnstfeld was supposed to be closed because the Jewish community of Hengstfeld was to be merged with the Jewish community of Michelbach an der Lücke . However, the branch church service in the Hengstfeld synagogue was approved by the Israelite higher church authority.

Since the Jewish community of Hengstfeld could not pay its own prayer leader , the synagogue was closed on January 13, 1840. Now the Jews in Hengstfeld attended the services in the Michelbach synagogue .

It was not until 1850 that the synagogue in Hengstfeld could be reopened. The synagogue building was renovated again in 1879.

After most of the Jewish residents left Hengstfeld, the synagogue was probably closed around 1895 and demolished in 1905. In 1902 the synagogue's inventory was sold.
