Synagogue in Libourne

The synagogue in Libourne , a French city in the Gironde department in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region , was built in 1847 according to plans by the architect Gautier. The synagogue at 33 Rue Lamothe has been on the list of architectural monuments in France as Monument historique since 1995 .

The synagogue remained closed in the first half of the 20th century because the Jewish community in Libourne could no longer reach a minyan . It was not until the immigration of African Jews in the 1960s that the synagogue could be renovated again and reactivated for worship .
