Synagogue in Naststätten (1904)

The synagogue in Naststätten , a town in the Rhein-Lahn district in Rhineland-Palatinate , was built in 1903/04 and destroyed in the November pogrom in 1938 . The synagogue was located on the corner of Rheinstrasse and Brühlstrasse.

history

The previous prayer room became too small at the end of the 19th century and the Jewish community wanted a representative synagogue to be built. She acquired a plot of land on Rheinstrasse and built her synagogue in 1903/04 according to plans by Nastät architect Christian Schuck. July 1904 was inaugurated with great participation of the population.

During the time of National Socialism , riots broke out in March 1937 when the synagogue windows were thrown in. The window was not renewed because it was feared that it would be repeated. During the November pogrom in 1938 , the interior of the synagogue was destroyed by SA men from Nastatten and the surrounding area. The gold star of David was removed from the pediment.

The ruins of the synagogue were demolished in March 1939 and the property leveled. After 1945 a parking lot was created on the property.

Commemoration

In 1987 a plaque was put up with the following inscription: “In memory of the fate of our fellow Jewish citizens. The synagogue stood here until 1938. City of Nastätten ”.
