The synagogue in Obernbreit , a market in the Lower Franconian district of Kitzingen ( Bavaria ), was built in 1748. The secular synagogue on Kirchgasse is a protected monument .

history

A prayer hall or synagogue was mentioned in the town as early as 1748. By dating the chuppa on the outer wall and based on dendrochronological studies, it could be proven that the existing building was built in 1748. This synagogue was the religious center of the Jewish community of Obernbreit until 1911 .

In the synagogue building there was also a teacher's apartment and a ritual bath ( mikveh ), which is ten meters below the building and was rediscovered a few years ago. After the dissolution of the Jewish community , the synagogue was sold and the interior changed by the buyer. The building served as a repair shop, machine hall and storage room.
