The synagogue in Shovkwa , a Ukrainian city ​​in Lviv Oblast , was built between 1692 and 1698. The synagogue is a protected cultural monument . The synagogue is popularly known as the Sobieski Synagogue because it was built by Johann III. Sobieski received financial support.

The synagogue in the late renaissance style with baroque decor was built according to plans by the architect Piotr Beber . The building with a defensive character was supposed to offer refuge in the event of warlike threats.

During the Second World War , the synagogue was devastated by German troops. The now ruinous building was used as a department store for several years.
