The synagogue in Austerlitz (Czech Slavkov u Brna ), a town 20 kilometers east of Brno in the Czech Republic , was built in the late 1850s. The secular synagogue is a protected monument .

history

In the years 1857/58 the old synagogue building was torn down to make way for a new building. The new church built on the foundations of the old synagogue was built in the neo-Romanesque style.

At the end of the 1990s, the restored synagogue building was opened to the public again with an exhibition on the history of the Jewish community in Austerlitz. Today the former synagogue is the seat of the Vyskov State Archives. A memorial plaque on the front of the building has been commemorating the more than 120 Holocaust victims from Austerlitz and the surrounding area since 1998 .
