The synagogue in Straubing , an independent city in the Lower Bavaria administrative region , was built in 1907. The synagogue at Wittelsbacherstraße 11 is a protected architectural monument .

history

During the November pogrom in 1938 , the interior of the synagogue was completely devastated, the building itself was preserved.

After the end of the Second World War , a box with Torah scrolls , candlesticks and cult objects was handed over to the police . It is not known which of the SS men secretly brought the items to safety.

description

The synagogue was built according to plans by the architect Franz Dendl . The neo-Romanesque hall building with pitched roof has two polygonal flank towers with tent roofs on the street side.

The parish hall adjoining to the east is a transverse two-storey half- hipped roof building in the neo-Romanesque style.
