The synagogue in Nordeck , a district of the town of Allendorf in the central Hessian district of Gießen , was set up in a half-timbered house at the beginning of the 19th century . The secular synagogue is at Rabenaustraße 42, it is a protected cultural monument .

history

Initially, a prayer room was probably set up in one of the Jewish houses. At the beginning of the 19th century, the Nordeck Jewish community was able to acquire a half-timbered house built in the middle of the 18th century and convert it into a synagogue.

During the November pogrom in 1938, the synagogue was not destroyed due to the resistance of the mayor at the time. After 1938 the synagogue building was converted into a residential building.
