The synagogue in Nordeck , a district of the town of Allendorf in the central Hessian district of Gießen , was set up in a half-timbered house at the beginning of the 19th century . The secular synagogue is at Rabenaustraße 42, it is a protected cultural monument .

history

Initially, a prayer room was probably set up in one of the Jewish houses. At the beginning of the 19th century, the Nordeck Jewish community was able to acquire a half-timbered house built in the middle of the 18th century and convert it into a synagogue.

During the November pogrom in 1938, the synagogue was not destroyed due to the resistance of the mayor at the time. After 1938 the synagogue building was converted into a residential building.

“Eaves-mounted half-timbered building from the 18th century on a high rectangular base. Originally built for residential purposes, it was used as a synagogue from the beginning of the 19th century. Important details of the two-zone building are the struts with counter struts and head angle timbers on corner and collar posts, the profiled threshold of the upper floor and the rounded filler timber between the beam heads.
