Fred Pallem (born February 1, 1973 ) is a French jazz musician (bass, guitar, arrangement, composition) who was best known as the leader of his big band Le Sacre du Tympan .

Live and act

Pallem turned to music as an autodidact at the age of 14, influenced by Pink Floyd , Chicago and The Beatles as well as by Duke Ellington , Charles Mingus and Herbie Hancock . In 1996 he began his studies in the jazz and improvisation department of the Conservatoire national supérieur de musique et de danse de Paris with François Théberge and Jean-François Jenny-Clark .

During his studies, which lasted until 2000, he composed for the theater company Troupe du Phénix . In 1998 he founded the 17-strong formation Le Sacre Du Tympan , which was mainly made up of fellow students, including Médéric Collignon and Christophe Monniot . The name of the orchestra alludes to Le sacre du printemps by Igor Stravinsky .

Pallem also composed and arranged for film and television, but also for the revues in the Crazy Horse Saloon . He also worked with Vanessa Paradis , Bernard Lavilliers , Sébastien Tellier , Charles Aznavour , Émilie Simon , Charlotte Gainsbourg , Philippe Katerine , Barbara Carlotti , Lou Doillon , Frederick Wiseman , Julien Lourau , Adamo , Jeanne Cherhal , Catherine Ringer , Luz Casal , Raphael Gualazzi , Gérard Darmon , Matthieu Chedid , Renan Luce , Feist , Sanseverino , Maurane , Vincent Delerm , Yael Naim , Ute Lemper , Antoine de Caunes , Édouard Baer , Julien Doré , Olivia Ruiz , Carlos , Régine , Keren Ann , Zebda , Camille , Thomas Fersen , Dick Annegarn , Mathieu Boogaerts , Jane Birkin , Lio , Albin de la Simone , Orelsan , Jeanne Moreau or Jean Rochefort . In the field of jazz he has also worked with André Minvielle , Michel Legrand , Noël Akchoté , Benoît Delbecq , Tony Allen , Anne Ducros , Bernard Lavilliers and Fabrice Martinez.

Prizes and awards

Pallem was awarded a first prize as a graduate of the CNSMDP. At the La Défense Jazz Festival 2000 competition, he won both first prize for the best composition and the orchestral prize for his Sacre du Tympan . With this formation he received the jazz award from the Victoires de la musique in 2006. 2010 Il ya from Vanessa Paradis , to which he contributed the arrangement, awarded the Grand Prix of the copyright association UNAC.
