Thomas Fersen (March 2008)

Thomas Fersen (born January 4, 1963 in Paris ) is a French songwriter . Although his music career began in the late 1980s, he is assigned to the Nouvelle Scène française or the Nouvelle Chanson .

biography

Thomas Fersen was born the son of a nurse and a bank clerk in the 11th arrondissement of Paris . He is the youngest of three children. His two sisters are two and four years older.

Fersen grew up in the Paris suburbs, in the Val-de-Marne department . He discovered his love for music together with his grandfather, who, in addition to his work as a banker, was also a musician.

In 1969 Fersen moved with his family to the 20th arrondissement of Paris , where he also attended elementary school. During this time he began to be more and more interested in music and often spent a long time dreaming in front of the shop windows of various music shops. Although his mother couldn't imagine that it would make any sense, she gave him his first guitar. It was then that his first chansons were written.

In 1978 Fersen's family moved again to the 8th arrondissement of Paris . Two years later he completed his school career with the Baccalauréat, the French Abitur, and founded a music group called "UU".

In 1984 and 1985, Fersen completed his military service.

In 1988 his first single "Ton héros Jane" was finally released , but it was not very successful. In 1990 his daughter Juliette was born and his second single "Le peuple de la nuit" was released. In 1993 Fersen's first album "Le bal des oiseaux" followed, which literally made him famous overnight and in 1994 earned him the title "Révélation masculine" (male new discovery of the year) in France. Since then he has released a new album every two years and is very successful in France.

Typical of Thomas Fersen are his very poetic lyrics . He knows how to use puns and especially likes to play with pictures from the world of plants and animals. The subjects of his texts are very broad and range from everyday situations to the description of dreams to completely absurd events. His deep and smoky voice and the fact that the music style ( rock , jazz , blues etc.) changes from album to album is particularly worth mentioning .
