The synagogue in Seeheim , a district of the Seeheim-Jugenheim community in the Darmstadt-Dieburg district in Hesse , was built in 1866/67. The profaned synagogue is at Schlossstrasse 24 (former address Ludwigstrasse 17; Ludwigstrasse was previously called Bachgasse).

history

In 1865, the Seeheim Jewish community acquired a piece of land and planned a community center with a synagogue, community center (with school and teacher's apartment) and mikveh (ritual bath). On Friday, February 14, 1868, the Torah scrolls were ceremoniously transferred from the old prayer room to the synagogue. The festival service took place on Sabbath morning , February 15, 1868.

time of the nationalsocialism

Shortly after 1933, after the minyan required for the worship service no longer came about, the synagogue was closed and sold to a non-Jewish family. After 1935 the building was converted into a residential building, which is why it was not damaged in the November pogrom in 1938 .
