As synergids or Gehilfinnenzellen be in the angiosperms the two smaller auxiliary cells of the embryo sac , the side of the egg are designated. Together with the ovule of the ovule , they form the egg apparatus, which is located in the micropyle (germ mouth, hole). In the context of double fertilization , the synergids have an important function. The pollen tube empties into one of these cells, whereupon the two nuclei of the sperm cells located in it can reach the egg cell and the nucleus of the embryo sac. In experiments it could be shown that the synergids have a main task in attracting the pollen tube.
