Syrian Expat Philharmonic Orchestra

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Syrian Expat Philharmonic Orchestra (SEPO) is a symphony orchestra of Syrian musicians in exile founded by Raed Jazbeh in 2015 . Most of the musicians found each other through a call on the social network facebook . The 75 members live today mostly in different European countries. Part of the orchestra also plays as a string quintet under the name Damascus String Quintet . The orchestra is particularly dedicated to maintaining traditional Syrian music, but also to the music of modern Syrian composers or composers of Syrian origin. Musical representations of non-Syrian music are more of an exception at the SEPO: In 2018, for example, the orchestra gave concerts together with greats in show business such as Nena , Semy Deluxe , Philipp Poisel and others on the Day of German Unity at the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin. In the same year the Syrian Expat Philharmonic Orchestra also took on the world premiere of “ Mass for peace in times of flight ” with texts by Navid Kermani ; Rasha Rizk sang the soprano part.
