Rasha Rizk ( Arabic رشا رزق, DMG Rašā Rizq ; * 1976 in Damascus , Syria ) is a Syrian singer (soprano) and songwriter .

Life

Rizk's talent for singing was discovered early on and encouraged by her family: at the age of nine, she began vocal training with Professor Naim Hanna. At the age of twelve she won first prize in the “Pioneer Children's Singing Competition” in Syria. Later she studied and graduated from the Higher Institute of Music Damascus, where she subsequently taught classical singing. She also studied French literature at the Sorbonne in Paris.

She achieved fame throughout the Arabic-speaking world as the interpreter and composer of the theme melodies of several cartoon series (mostly of Japanese origin). These were usually broadcast by Spacetoon TV , the most famous children's television station in Arab countries.

In 2000 Rizk founded the Syrian jazz band "Itar Shameh" with Ibrahim Sulaimani . The singer now lives in Paris , where she lives with her husband and daughter, and has been giving concerts in Europe for several years: in 2008, for example, she published the songs Prayers and Reborn with the French new age band “ Era ” , recorded at Abbey Road Studios .

In 2003 she worked with the Dutch composer Michiel Borstlap on the realization of the opera " Ibn Sina ".

In 2018 she made her debut in the Hamburg Elbphilharmonie and in the same year, together with the Syrian Expat Philharmonic Orchestra , took over the premiere of the "Mass for Peace in Times of Flight" with texts by Navid Kermani .
