history

The broadcasting hall was built in the early 1950s according to plans by the Bremen architects Storm, Anker and Störmer . The opening took place on December 23, 1952.

At the beginning of 2009, the entire area with all the buildings of the former radio house was sold by Radio Bremen to the "Sendesaal Karree Gesellschaft", which is backed by a developer company owned by the Bremen contractor and patron Klaus Hübotter and the Bremen construction company Kathmann. The operator of the newly named Sendesaals Bremen is the Verein Freunde des Sendesaals e. V. , based in Bremen, who had campaigned for years to preserve the broadcasting hall, which was threatened with demolition. The association holds public concerts and offers the hall together with the technical facilities for recordings. Record labels like Enja and ECM want to record in the broadcasting hall.

In 2011 Harmonia Mundi released a recording with the Tetzlaff Quartet, recorded in the spring-loaded room of the broadcasting hall.
