history

The company goes back to the retailer Auguste Juhel from Savenay , who in 1894 was able to convince various retailers in the region to merge into a purchasing cooperative under the name Le Pain Quotidien . In 1920 the cooperative already had 300 members. This emerged after the Second World War the UNICO, which as since 1982 Système U trades.

As part of the 2017 Fipronil scandal , the French Ministry of Agriculture published a list in which Système U appears as one of the distributors of contaminated egg-based products.

In 2019, Système U had 1,559 sales outlets in France. They are divided into 719 Super U, 63 Hyper U, 359 U express, 3 Marché U and 796 Station U. Système U thus placed itself as the fourth largest company in this branch. There was a strategic partnership with E.Leclerc in 2017 .
