Szolnoki Olaj Kosárlabda Klub ( German Szolnoker Oil Basketball Club ) is a Hungarian basketball club from Szolnok in the Puszta . The association was founded in 1959 as Alföldi Olajbányász by workers in the oil production. Since 1988 the club name has been Szolnoki Olajbányász or Szolnoki Olaj.
history
Alföldi Olaj first played first class in the national championship in the 1980s. In 1989 he was promoted again as Szolnoki Olaj and in the second season they won the Hungarian championship for the first time. In 1993 they became runner-up and reached the national cup final three times in a row from 1993 to 1995. Subsequently, there were initially no further successes. After a runner-up in 2000, won the national cup for the first time in 2002. After another dry spell, the national double followed in 2007 for the first time , which could then be repeated in 2011 and 2012. In the 2010/11 season they also successfully qualified for the European club competition EuroChallenge , the team marched for a year, led by the Hungarian national players Obie Trotter and Márton Báder , the Bulgarian national player Christo Nikolow and the American Brandon Gay , even surprisingly into the Final Four tournament of this competition. As the host of this final tournament, they moved to the Fönix Hall in Debrecen, 130 km away . However, the semi-finals were lost against the favored team of Beşiktaş Milangaz .
