Ätendorf-Eppensen is a place in the Lüneburg Heath in the district of Uelzen , Lower Saxony . Tatendorf-Eppensen belongs to the municipality of Barum and has over 300 inhabitants.

history

In a document mentioning the Oldenstadt monastery from 1006, the place was still called Thedandorp. The Eppenhusen settlement was not mentioned in writing until later. Another Oldenstadt document from 1133 speaks of an "Ibiksen". It is unclear whether this is Eppensen. In another document from 1142 the place is called Eppensen. According to local researcher Adolf Bätge , this document is a forgery.

The first people from Tatendorf came from Barum, while the founders of Eppensen came from the Ilmenau valley. This can be seen from the logging rights of the time, which stipulated where the farmers felled their timber and firewood and where they were allowed to drive their pigs to be acorn-fed. Together with the inhabitants of Barum, Vinstedt and Natendorf, the people of Tatendorf used the trees of the Barum wood, which have largely disappeared today. Eppensen, on the other hand, was one of the so-called wage prospects, as well as Sasendorf, Klein Bünstorf and Nassennottorf.

The parish boundaries, however, have survived the centuries unchanged until today. So the people of Tatendorf go to church in Barum, but the Eppensians go to Bad Bevensen. In 1928 the two communities were merged to save costs in administration. Protests by residents against the merger were unsuccessful. In 1929 the first joint mayor was elected. Over time, new buildings filled the gap between Tatendorf and Eppensen, which was also visually united.

In 2006 ,ätendorf-Eppensen celebrated its 1000th anniversary.
