The Lohn is a nature reserve in the Lower Saxony municipality of Barum and the town of Bad Bevensen in the joint municipality of Bevensen-Ebstorf in the district of Uelzen .
The nature reserve with the registration number NSG LÜ 266 is 254 hectares in size. It is partly part of the FFH area “Lohn”. The 37.1 hectare natural forest reserve “Lohn”, which was designated in 1974, has been included in the nature reserve.
The nature reserve is located south of Bad Bevensen. It places a near-natural deciduous forest area under protection, which is predominantly characterized by flutter grass and woodruff beech forests . In addition, mixed oak forests occur.
The forest has a high number of old and dead wood with eyrie and cave trees, root plates and splinter stumps .
In the south of the nature reserve, within the natural forest reserve “Lohn”, which is left to its natural development, is an amphibian body of water that has a flat bank and a wide border of sedges and rushes . a. Provides habitat for crested newt and agile frog . There is a wild meadow roughly in the middle of the nature reserve .
The area has been a nature reserve since December 16, 2004. The responsible lower nature conservation authority is the district of Uelzen.
