The Ise with tributaries is a nature reserve in the municipality of Lüder in the joint municipality of Aue in the district of Uelzen and the municipalities of Obernholz , Hankensbüttel and Dedelstorf in the joint municipality of Hankensbüttel , the city of Wittingen , the municipalities of Schönewörde , Wahrenholz and Wesendorf in the joint municipality of Wesendorf , the municipality of Sassenburg and the city of Gifhorn in the Gifhorn district .

General

The nature reserve with the sign NSG BR 156 is approximately 833.5  hectares . Most of the nature reserve is located in the Gifhorn district, only 0.185 hectares in the Uelzen district. The nature reserve comprises the FFH area of ​​the same name and borders in the north on the nature reserve " Schweimker Moor und Lüderbruch ", north of Wahrenholz on the nature reserve " Niederungsbereich Oerrelbach " and south of Wahrenholz on the nature reserve " Bösebruch ". In the north, the nature reserve is also adjacent to the conservation area "Röhrser Bach - swing beekeepers Moor - Lüder book". Between Hankensbüttel and Gifhorn, it is almost completely surrounded by the "Ostheide" conservation area. Parts of the nature reserve have also merged into the nature reserve, as has a narrow strip on the south-eastern edge of the "Bösebruch" nature reserve. The area has been under nature protection since June 30, 2018. Responsible lower nature conservation authorities are the districts of Gifhorn and Uelzen.

The nature reserve lies roughly between Hankensbüttel and Gifhorn and encompasses the course of the Ise for 38.5 km from the crossing under the Elbe Lateral Canal northeast of Hankensbüttel to just above the Mühlensee in Gifhorn, the bank area of ​​the river and adjacent valley areas as well as several tributaries: part of the Gosebach, which flows under the Elbe side canal into the Ise, part of the Emmer Bach, which flows into the Ise southeast of Hankensbüttel, the Bruno, which flows into the Ise in Wahrenholz, and part of the Bruno flowing through the Oerrelbach and the Beberbach from the crossing of Kreisstraße 7 in Wesendorf and the confluence with the Ise southeast of Wesendorf. Most of the rivers and streams in the nature reserve are heavily straightened. To the east of the Gifhorn district of Gamsen , the Alte Ise is an old arm of the Ise, which has the character of a still water .

As part of the revitalization measures carried out in the 1990s, the bank protection by fascines was largely removed. The section of the river southeast of Hankensbüttel, which runs along the Elbe Lateral Canal, is secured with armourstones to secure the canal's dam. Arable land in the floodplain of the Ise was often converted to grassland and strips of water were created.

The nature reserve is located in a predominantly agricultural area. In particular, between Hankensbüttel and Wahrenholz, the Ise flows through forests and is accompanied by trees over long stretches, in places small alluvial forests can be found.

The nature reserve is the habitat of the otter . It also serves to network the otters in the catchment areas of Örtze and Lachte , Dumme and Drömlings . The nature reserve is also important for ospreys , black and white storks . The rivers and streams are home to wolffish , bitterling and brook lamprey, as well as pea clams and great river clams . Various dragonflies are native to the rivers and streams , including the green mermaid , common wedge damsel , blue-winged demoiselle and banded demoiselle as well as other insects , e.g. B. the mud fly Sialis nigripes . The long-leaved pondweed settles in the Ise .
