The Kranichsmoorsee is a quarry pond and a nature reserve in the Lower Saxony municipality of Isenbüttel in the Isenbüttel municipality in the Gifhorn district .
Nature reserve
The nature reserve with the registration number NSG BR 049 is 16 hectares in size. It is located southeast of Gifhorn directly on the Elbe Lateral Canal . It includes the lake with its bank areas. In the west it borders on the embankment of the Elbe Lateral Canal.
The lake was created through the extraction of soil material in the course of the construction of the Elbe Lateral Canal. As a deep water lake, it has hardly any shallow water areas. There is a small island to the south of the lake.
The Kranichmoorsee is particularly important as a resting and resting area for migrating water bird species .
The area has been a nature reserve since November 16, 1982. The responsible lower nature conservation authority is the district of Gifhorn.
