The northern Okeraue between Hülperode and Neubrück is a nature reserve in the Lower Saxony municipality of Schwülper in the joint municipality of Papenteich in the district of Gifhorn and in the municipality of Wendeburg in the district of Peine .
The nature reserve with the registration number NSG BR 099 is 250 hectares . 195.6 hectares are in the Gifhorn district and 54.4 hectares in the Peine district. The nature reserve is almost completely part of the FFH area "Aller (with Barnbruch), lower Leine, lower Oker". In the south it borders on the nature reserve " Braunschweiger Okeraue ", in the north on the nature reserve " Okeraue bei Didderse ". The area has been a nature reserve since September 17, 1996. Responsible lower nature conservation authorities are the districts of Gifhorn and Peine.
The nature reserve lies between Braunschweig and Neubrück . It protects a near-natural, meandering section of the Oker, including the valley floodplain and the adjacent slope terrace . The floodplain is predominantly characterized by grassland that is periodically flooded. The partly unpaved banks of the Oker form abrupt edges and sand deposits . Furthermore, bayous and flood channels to find. Remains of the alluvial forests are still there. Besides are Hochstaudenfluren , Sedge and reed areas to find.
During bird migration , the protected area is an important resting and feeding habitat for migrating water bird species .
