The Okeraue between Meinersen and Müden (Aller) is a nature reserve in the Lower Saxon communities of Meinersen and Müden (Aller) in the Meinersen municipality in the Gifhorn district .
The nature reserve with the sign NSG BR 143 is 268.4 hectares in size. It is almost completely part of the FFH area "Aller (with Barnbruch), lower Leine, lower Oker". In the south it borders on the nature reserve " Okeraue bei Volkse ".
The nature reserve lies between Meinersen and Müden (Aller). It protects the lowest section of the Oker, including the floodplain between Meinersen and the weir at Müden-Dieckhorst, slightly above the confluence with the Aller . The upper half of this is still close to nature, the course of the river meanders here. In the lower part, the course of the river was straightened as early as the 19th century .
The floodplain is characterized by an alternation between higher lying fields and lower lying grassland , which is periodically flooded. The partly unpaved banks of the Oker form abrupt edges and sand deposits . In some places along the course of the river oxbow lakes can be found. The bank areas are often characterized by tall herbaceous vegetation and reed beds . In addition, alluvial forest remains can be found.
The continuity of the river section has been guaranteed since 2003 by a fish passage in Müden-Dieckhorst and since 2005 by a bypass channel in Meinersen. The descent is made easier at both locations by an escape pipe.
The area has been a nature reserve since December 31, 2011. The responsible lower nature conservation authority is the district of Gifhorn.
