The Bornbruchsmoor is a nature reserve in the Lower Saxony town of Wittingen in the Gifhorn district .
The nature reserve with the registration number NSG BR 073 is 110 hectares in size. The 11 hectare natural forest reserve of the same name, designated in 1972, is included in the nature reserve.
The nature reserve is located east of Knesebeck and protects an area in the northwest of Malloh, which is characterized by natural and near-natural forests. In the forest are oaks -, alder - and pine - birch trees to find -Moorwald. The area designated as a natural forest is located in the northwest of the protected area. It is left to its natural development.
In addition to the forest areas, there are transitional moors , wet meadows and sedges . There are also ponds in several places. Several streams run through the nature reserve , which form the Knesebach in Knesebeck. The Knesebach is a tributary of the Ise , which flows into the Aller in Gifhorn .
The area has been a nature reserve since January 16, 1986. The responsible lower nature conservation authority is the district of Gifhorn.
Planning the Autobahn 39
The state of Lower Saxony is planning to continue building the federal motorway 39 between Lüneburg and Wolfsburg . In planning section 6 between Wittingen and Ehra , the preferred variant runs in the Malloh forest area south of Knesebeck, directly west of the Volkswagen test track and thus in the immediate vicinity of the nature reserve.
