The Fahle Heide, Gifhorner Heide is a nature reserve in the Lower Saxony town of Gifhorn and the municipality of Leiferde in the Gifhorn district .

General

The nature reserve with the sign NSG BR 113 is 352.3  hectares . It is almost congruent with the FFH area of the same name . In the north it borders on the nature reserve " Allertal between Gifhorn (B 4) and Flettmar (district border) ".

The nature reserve was created in 2014 by merging the nature reserves “Fahle Heide” and “Gifhorner Heide”. The label of the approximately 310 hectare nature reserve "Fahle Heide" was adopted.

The nature reserve "Fahle Heide" has been under nature protection since January 18, 1994. In the scope of the nature reserve, it replaced the landscape reserve "Gifhorner, Winkeler and Fahle Heide and adjacent parts of the landscape", which was designated in 1984 and which extensively surrounds the nature reserve.

The 32.3 hectare nature reserve "Gifhorner Heide" with the registration number NSG BR 024 has been under nature protection since March 15, 1962.

The responsible lower nature conservation authority is the district of Gifhorn.

Pale heather

The Fahle Heide is located west of Gifhorn in the east of the forest area of the same name . It consists of a core of a dune field that by glacial Sandaufwehungen in the glacial valley of the Aller has emerged. In the dunes, wind blows created hollows and depressions in which flat moors and slops can be found today. There are often reeds in the boggy areas . Dwarf shrubs such as blueberries and heather grow on the dunes .

To the east, the dune areas of the Pale Heide merge directly into that of the Gifhorner Heide. To the north, the Aller valley with its floodplain connects to the nature reserve. Part of this is included in the nature reserve, especially the bucket meadows in the west of the reserve, which are characterized by wet grassland. Several oxbow lakes of the Aller can be found in the lowland area . In the east, with the former Hehlenteich, another lowland area is included in the protected area, which is characterized by grassland , but also partly forest on moist sites. There are also numerous ponds and Schlatts here .

The Allerkanal flows through the protected area in the south and west .

Gifhorn Heath

The Gifhorner Heide, often advertised as “Gifhorn Switzerland” in earlier years, is located in the west of Gifhorn between the federal highway 4 and the Gifhorn district of Winkel . It consists of a of dune fields embossed portion of Allerurstromtales with a change of dry dune crests and wet, boggy dune valleys. The range of Gifhorner Heide is largely of heath areas with brooms Gentiles , degenerated moor areas with purple moor grass and moorland marked.

The edge areas of the nature reserve are occupied by forest areas, mainly pine forests .
