The Nördliche Drömling is a nature reserve in the Lower Saxon communities of Parsau and Rüßen and the community-free area Giebel in the integrated community of Brome in the Gifhorn district . The nature reserve is located in the sparsely populated lowland area of ​​the Drömling .

General

The nature reserve with the registration number NSG BR 162 is approximately 1113  hectares . It is largely part of the FFH area “Drömling” and the EU bird sanctuary “Drömling”. In the northeast it borders on the nature reserves " Schulenburg shear Drömling " and " gable Moor ", in the southwest of the nature reserve " Wend gravel and Vorsfelder Drömling with Köther meadows " and the southeast by the nature reserve " Southern Drömling " and in Saxony-Anhalt nature reserve lying " Ohre- Drömling ". It is also bordered by the “Lütjes Moor” conservation area in the north and the “Drömling” conservation area in the north and north-west. The parts of the landscape protection areas within the scope of the nature conservation ordinance were incorporated into the nature reserve. The area has been under nature protection since November 30, 2019. The responsible lower nature conservation authority is the district of Gifhorn.

location

The nature reserve is located northeast of Wolfsburg in the northern and central part of the Lower Saxony Drömling protected area system. It encompasses parts of the extensive Drömling lowlands with transitions to the higher Ostheide . The protection of the area also serves to safeguard the nature conservation law of the major nature conservation project Lower Saxony Drömling , which was carried out from November 2002 to October 2012 . Among other things, damming measures for the watering and stabilization of the groundwater levels and measures for the extensification of grassland management and forest use were carried out.

Parts of the nature reserve can be experienced from paths. In the south, the federal highway 244 and the Mittelland Canal cross part of the nature reserve. In the middle of the nature reserve it borders in parts on the county road 322 between Rühren and Parsau. In addition, the 502 district road leading to Kaiserwinkel crosses the nature reserve here.

The northern and southern area of ​​the nature reserve is dominated by grasslands on fens , some of which are criss-crossed by numerous ditches from the period of amelioration ( Rimpau's moorland culture ). In the northern area, small moor , alder, ash and mixed oak forests are embedded in the grasslands . Between the two grassland areas protrudes a wooded foothills of Ostheide oak and beech trees and pine forest in the protected area into it.

The grasslands with different, sometimes high levels of moisture are mainly used extensively. They have a variety of edge structures with river edges , structures of the bog dam culture, hedges and field trees , forest edges and fringes as well as transitions to reed beds and sedges . The lawns are as lean Flachlandmähwiesen with the ordinary sweet vernal grass , bulbous buttercup , Sharp buttercup , lady's smock , ragged robin , meadow pea , red clover , nodules saxifrage , meadow salsify , Heilziest , wild carrot and Hasenfußsegge , Cnidium Alluvial meadows with Fuchssegge , Yellow meadow rue , grave violets , marsh pea and Inula Britannica and Molinia meadows with Heilziest, Exceptional Quaking , Galium uliginosum , Lotus pedunculatus , dyers Charter , ragged robin, marsh thistle , selinum carvifolia , Exceptional moor grass , Luzula campestris , tangle rush , meadows and Hirsesegge pronounced.

Forest edges and moist waters banks settle Hochstaudenfluren with Genuine meadowsweet , Exceptional loosestrife , Eupatorium , Marsh Woundwort , Wild Angelica , Yellow and Shining Meadow Rue .

Ditches and still waters are home to spawning or frog-bite communities. Common water hose , triple-furrowed duckweed , small duckweed , multi-rooted pond lens , frog bite , floating pondweed , narrow-leaved and broad-leaved cattail and marsh sword lily settle here . The trenches are often formed close to nature and have structure-rich river beds.

Forest

The moor, alder and ash or mixed oak forests are close to nature. The alder and ash forests are characterized as riparian forests made up of black alder and ash . There are also English oak , common bird cherry and red currant . The herb layer is formed by, among other things, grass clown , giant fescue , swamp sedge and great balsam . The mixed oak forests are pronounced on moist locations as mixed oak and hornbeam forests with pedunculate oak, hornbeam , downy birch and quivering poplar as the dominant tree species. The common hazel joins the bushes . Forest twigs and common witchweed settle in the herb layer . On drier sandy soils, oak forests of English oak, sand and downy birch, red beech and mountain ash grow thick . In the herb layer, among other things, common pipegrass, wire smith and thorny worm fern settle . The forests in the nature reserve generally have a high proportion of old and dead wood . The pine forests are formed by Scots pine . In the medium term they are to be converted into deciduous forests, as well as in some areas of the poplar trees.

fauna

The nature reserve is a habitat for otters , beavers and wild cats as well as numerous species of birds , including, depending on the habitat type, crane , honey buzzard , tree falcon , red and black kite , black , gray and middle woodpecker , nuthatch , red- backed killer , nightingale , oriole , reed bunting , marsh warbler , treecreeper , Pied flycatcher , meadow pipit , woodlark , whinchat , swamp tit , sparrowhawk , curlew , common snipe , corncrake , little grebe and teal duck . Black and white storks use the area for foraging. Waters and their environments are habitat of great crested newt , common spadefoot , deciduous and moor frog , grass snake and various fish and dragonfly species . The nature reserve is also home to various grasshoppers , including the short-winged sword insect , butterflies such as meadowsweet mother-of-pearl , ox-eye, rust-colored thick-headed butterfly and golden eight , various beetles and snails .
