The bog bedstraw ( Galium uliginosum ) is a species of the red family (Rubiaceae).
features
The bog bedstraw is a perennial herbaceous plant that reaches heights of 10 to 30, rarely up to 60 centimeters. The stem is rough, bare, square and lying to ascending. Usually six to eight, rarely five leaves stand together in whorls. The leaves are linear-lanceolate, lightly tipped, remain green and rough on the edge backwards.
The flowers are wider than the ripe fruits, 2.5 to 3 millimeters in diameter and are white. The stamens are yellow. The fruit is 1 millimeter wide, fine-grained, rough and papilose.
The flowering period extends from May to September.
The number of chromosomes is 2n = 22 or 44.
Occurrence
The bog bedstraw is basenhold, i. In other words, it prefers basic soils and populates flat bogs, wet meadows and banks up to altitudes of 1800 meters. In the Allgäu Alps, it rises to an altitude of around 1280 meters. Its area extends across Europe to Siberia and China. The species is also found in Morocco. This species is widespread in Central Europe. It is in Central Europe, a characteristic species of the order Molinietalia, but also comes in companies of the Association Caricion fuscae ago.
