The Okeraue bei Volkse is a nature reserve in the Lower Saxon communities of Hillerse , Leiferde and Meinersen in the Meinersen municipality in the Gifhorn district .
The nature reserve with the sign NSG BR 135 is 496 hectares in size. It is completely part of the FFH area "Aller (with Barnbruch), lower Leine, lower Oker". In the south it borders on the nature reserve " Okeraue bei Didderse ", in the north on the nature reserve " Okeraue between Meinersen and Müden (Aller) ".
The nature reserve lies between Hillerse and Meinersen. It protects a near-natural, meandering section of the Oker, including the valley floodplain and the adjacent slope terrace . The meadow is characterized by grassland that is periodically flooded. In addition, arable land can also be found on higher land . The partly unpaved banks of the Oker form abrupt edges and sand deposits . Oxygen arms and flood channels can be found along the course of the river . The river banks are often of Hochstaudenfluren and reeds dominated areas. In addition, alluvial forest remains and mixed oak forests can be found.
The course of the river divides into two arms between Seershausen and Meinersen. Several fish ponds have been created between the two river arms. The eastern arm by a weir , the western through a mill storage regulated. The continuity of the river section has been guaranteed since 2005 by a bypass channel in Meinersen. The descent is made easier by an escape pipe.
The area has been a nature reserve since March 26, 2009. The responsible lower nature conservation authority is the district of Gifhorn.
