The Obere Lachte, Kainbach, Jafelbach is a nature reserve in the Lower Saxony municipalities of Steinhorst , Dedelstorf and Sprakensehl in the joint municipality of Hankensbüttel and in the municipality of Groß Oesingen in the joint municipality of Wesendorf in the district of Gifhorn .
The nature reserve with the registration number NSG BR 098 is 1090 hectares in size. A large part of it is part of the FFH area "Lutter, Lachte, Aschau (with a few tributaries)". In the southwest it borders on the “ Lachte ” nature reserve .
The nature reserve lies between Groß Oesingen, Steinhorst and Sprakensehl. It places the upper reaches of the Lachte, the Kainbach and the Jafelbach with some source streams as well as their valley areas and partly the surrounding slope areas under protection. The rivers and streams are in parts near-natural flowing waters. Lachte and Kainbach are usually clearly cut into the landscape. In the slope areas they are mostly accompanied by forests . There are also open areas and swamp forests in the valleys . Along the Kainbach, which flows into the Lachte above Steinhorst, there are many grassland areas and several ponds. In Steinhorst the nature reserve is limited to the Lachte, below Steinhorst it includes the surrounding areas again.
In the area of the Jafelbach, which flows into the Lachte below Steinhorst, the nature reserve is quite clearly branched, as the source streams of the Jafelbach and moored areas are also included in the nature reserve. These areas are also often wooded, but larger grassland areas can also be found. There are also ponds here in several places. Especially in the area of the Jafelbach, the forest is left to its own devices.
Part of the nature reserve east of Steinhorst is affected by the route of the Celle – Wittingen small railway , while a section of the route several hundred meters long also runs through the reserve. In the east, the B 4 runs for a while through the nature reserve or borders it.
The area has been a nature reserve since January 3, 1997. The responsible lower nature conservation authority is the district of Gifhorn.
