The Lengeder ponds are a nature reserve in the Lower Saxony town of Lengede in the Peine district .
The nature reserve with the registration number NSG BR 044 is 130 hectares in size. It is congruent with the designated EU bird sanctuary of the same name in 2000 . A portion of the reserve is adjacent to the conservation area "Lengede-Broistedt". The area has been a nature reserve since June 16, 1982. The responsible lower nature conservation authority is the district of Peine.
The two-part nature reserve is located south and east of Lengede. The western part borders on Kreisstraße 46 in the north and the Hildesheim – Braunschweig railway in the south. In the east it is bounded by the Fuhse . On the southern edge of Lengede, the wooded area between the residential development of Lengede, Landesstrasse 472, the railway line and the Fuhse is part of the nature reserve. The eastern part of the protected area is located south of Kreisstraße 45 on the edge of Lengede.
The nature reserve encompasses several of the Lengeder ponds - former clearing ponds of the Lengede-Broistedt mine, bordered with dams - and adjacent areas. Other former clarification ponds of the pit are located outside the nature reserve. The area is characterized by different sizes of standing water , which extended shallow water areas with large reedbed zones with willow bushes have. The ponds are habitat for numerous animals. They are of particular importance for the bird world. So come here u. a. Bittern , marsh harrier , red kite , kingfisher , spoon and tufted duck , grebes and Nightingale ago. Also contributing to the ponds of great importance for resting waterfowl , including spit , spoon , Krick- , Knäk , Gadwall , Tableware and tufted duck, but also gray goose , mute swan and whooper swan . An observation platform was set up at one of the ponds in 1999.
In order to preserve the reed zones as living space, the bushes have to be pushed back again and again. In the east of the nature reserve, the former clarification ponds IX and VI as well as the former clarification pond V in the west of the nature reserve are partially silted up.
There are several hiking trails in the nature reserve area. The area is looked after by the Braunschweig district group of the German Nature Conservation Union .
