The Schwarzwasserniederung is a nature reserve in the area of ​​the Lower Saxony town of Peine and the municipality of Edemissen in the Peine district .

The nature reserve with the registration number NSG BR 096 is 390  hectares . A 6.7 hectare area in the west of the nature reserve also forms the FFH area "Inland salt station Klein Oedesse".

The nature reserve is located in an area to the west, south and east of Edemissen. It places parts of the valley floodplains of the Schwarzwassers and Flöthe and parts of the Blumenhagener Moor under protection. It is predominantly characterized by grassland areas, numerous ditches , hedges and individual trees. There are also reeds and reeds, and small areas of forests and arable land . In several places there are still waters of different sizes .

To the west of the reserve, a by is salt mining Resulting salt area with a small salt stockpile and a salt marsh.

In the nature reserve u. a. Meadow bird species such as curlew , common snipe and lapwing . The area is also a habitat for various amphibians and reptiles such as pond and common frogs , common toads , pond newts , wood lizards and sand lizards as well as insects such as various dragonflies , grasshoppers and butterflies .

At Edemissen, the embankment of the former railway line between Plockhorst and Peine , which at Plockhorst branched off from the also disused railway line between Celle and Braunschweig , runs through the nature reserve. Dry and warm locations are predominant along the dam. The nature reserve is crossed by federal road 444 and district roads 5, 18 and 19.

The area has been a nature reserve since April 3, 1990. The responsible lower nature conservation authority is the district of Peine.
