The Plockhorst – Peine railway was a single-track branch line connecting Peine and Celle with a length of 16.1 kilometers.
history
The construction of this line was decided in 1912 together with the Celle – Braunschweig line . Construction began too; during the First World War , however, the construction of these routes was stopped. After the end of the war and further construction work began on October 4, 1922. The route was laid out generously. The construction of the station buildings also corresponded to the uniform type that was also built on the Braunschweig – Celler line . The Ankensen train station, which was built on the estate of the same name, but in the vicinity of which there was no town to be found, is particularly striking.
business
Despite the spacious layout, the route was of local importance. Only three to five pairs of passenger trains were planned in the timetable. The trains had only one class. In the last few years, only a rail bus with a sidecar operated in passenger transport. In Plockhorst there was a connection to the trains to Celle. Popularly, the railway was nicknamed Peiner Alli , with which a well-known train driver was immortalized.
Shutdown
Passenger traffic on the route ceased on June 1, 1958. The section between Peine and Stederdorf remained in operation for freight traffic; it was shut down on June 1, 2003.
Status
The line has been completely dismantled - with the exception of a section from the Stederdorf industrial area, north of the former train station, to Peine. The embankment was also partially removed. The route is still clearly visible in the Ankensen and Edemissen area, and the Ankensen, Edemissen and Stederdorf station buildings are still in private hands. In spring 2017, the last remains of the track between Stederdorf and Peine were also dismantled.
In a train accident on the Hanover – Braunschweig line on June 16, 2010, the superstructure of the line in the area of the still existing but no longer used connection to the Plockhorst – Peine railway line was severely damaged. The Hanover – Braunschweig line was then repaired without the connection being restored.
